5 Tips for Increasing Your Odds for Success - Personal Branding Blog - Stand Out In Your Career
5 Tips for Increasing Your Odds for Success - Personal Branding Blog - Stand Out In Your Career Everyone has heard about the Powerball winners from a few days ago. One of the winners let the computer pick random numbers. Which statistically is just as likely to succeed as taking a more measured course by selecting favorite numbers. All in all ⦠Good for them. I hope they do great things with their new found money. Of course, most people donât have millions of dollars thrust upon them. The lucky few that do also have great responsibilities thrust upon them as well. This post is about making a bet on something that has significantly higher and more predictable odds. As a point of reference â" you are much more likely to be struck by lightning. If I had my choice ⦠Iâll take the lottery odds. Odds of being struck by lightning: 576,000 to 1. Odds of winning the lottery 175 million to 1 (source: Powerball.com) My suggestion is ⦠Play the odds that are in your favor. The odds you can control ⦠at least to some extent. By following these tips I think you can tip the odds in your favor. Good luck and please let me know your tips in the comments. Tip 1 â" Build your Platform In The Impact Equation Chris Brogan and Julien Smith implore readers to build a platform. The act of developing a platform requires that you take time and think through what you want and what you donât want. A platform lets people know what you stand for and it makes it much easier to help yourself and potential investors know what direction you are taking. By investors I donât mean financial investors only. I also mean stakeholders and interested parties. Vision without action is daydream. Action without vision is nightmare. ~ Japanese Proverb There are much greater odds of success when you have a platform to stand upon. Tip 2 â" Build your Network A network can be a set of trusted advisors. A network can be a set of informal advisors. A network can be a group of people you may not even know, but one that might be willing to crowd source ideas and innovation. A network can make all the difference when the time comes to gut check and sanity check ideas. The currency of real networking is not greed but generosity ~Keith Ferrazzi Look for advisors that will: Pick you up and dust you off Bask in your glory (this is ok ⦠if theyâve been there though the hard times too). Real friends will be there for both There are much greater odds of success when you have a network to rely upon. Tip 3 â" Listen More As I wrote in a post here before about 7 Tips for Hearing More and Doing More itâs easy to say Listen Up, but it can be much harder to really listen. My suggestion to increase the odds of success is LISTEN MORE. When people talk, listen completely. Most people never listen. ~ Ernest Hemingway What could you accomplish if you listened more? Some might say listening prevents them from doing. While this may be true, the act of listening may prevent you from doing something that will ultimately decrease your odds of success. There are much greater odds of success when you are listening to you your advisors. (Even if you donât always heed their advice) Tip 4 â" Screw It ⦠Just Do It Sometimes you just have to go for it and take action. Whether you think you can or think you cant, youre right. ~ Henry Ford Sir Richard Branson has a similar saying. He says Screw It, Lets Do It he liked it so much he used it for the title of his book. He also created a video of 52,000 reasons to start your own business Sometimes you have to buck the odds and just go for it. When youâve done steps 1, 2 and 3 in a diligent manner you should have the odds in your favor. Tip 5 â" Share As you learn good and bad things share what youâve found. Everyone benefits. It takes a lot of courage to show your dreams to someone else. ~ Erma Bombeck Robert Fulgum wrote All I Really Need to Know I Learned in Kindergarten If youâve never read the book or donât remember the things you (should have) learned in kindergarten ⦠take a look here. Sharing is caring. It can be hard to do. However, when done regularly it becomes much easier. When done right the dividends are huge and they often come back to you in unexpected ways. When youâve beaten the odds ⦠Share what youâve learned. Iâm sure there are many other tips for increasing the odds for success. Iâd like to hear your tips for successfully increasing the odds for success in the comments. What have you learned? What would you like to share? Becoming a successful musician is a career just like any other. Today we want to share with you some of the essential things you need to know when becoming a musician as a career this year. Whether you need to learn to read sheet music, know how to handle real soundcloud promotion, or handle the legal stuff; theres a lot to consider as a public figure and here are some tips to help you through. Image by Free-Photos from Pixabay Practice every day The only way you will ever be the best of the best is to practice your craft every single day. It is incredibly important for you to practice music each day because it will allow you to air out those niggling bad habits, to hold notes for longer, and to gain that muscle memory when playing an instrument. Becoming a successful musician is a career just like any other. You will have to fight off a lot of competing parties, there will always be a huge challenge ahead, and you will need to think about ways which you can make the most of your time to improve your skills. Tweet This Master your instrument Learning how to play an instrument such as the piano or guitar is a huge undertaking but it is also something which will greatly improve your musical prowess and skill. Here are some handy tips for learning how to read and play music on the piano which you can also apply to other instruments. FACE and Every Good Boy Deserves Football Now that we have mentioned them, it is time to talk about these common terms used in piano. Both of these terms refer specifically to sheet music, and they refer to the 7 notes which appear on all musical instruments: ABCDEFG. Sheet music is made up of 5 lines, with 4 spaces in between. FACE simply describes the notes which should be played, bottom to top, in the spaces between the lines. Every Good Boy Deserves Football, or EGBDF, are the notes on each line. Once you know this, it will be easier for you to read a piece of sheet music and understand what notes you need to play. Image by Steve Buissinne from Pixabay Ear training The easiest method for learning piano without getting yourself flustered over sheet music is to listen and imitate. Pick a piece of music you love, and listen to the tune. Now, try and copy the tune on the piano. It will likely take you a little while to find all of the right notes, but it will help you get familiar with a piano and how to use it. Using both hands One of the most difficult steps in learning to play the piano is learning to coordinate both hands. Using the left and right hand is a huge challenge if you arent used to it, and the easiest way to get used to this is by playing chopsticks or green sleeves. These pieces work so well because the left hand is used at the same time as the right. More complex pieces would have you play with your left hand at different speeds. Training the left and right hand to work together can take a while and eventually you could move to a real piece of piano such as Le Onde by Ludivico Einaudi which also allows the left and right hand to coordinate. Write out sheet music If you know where the notes are on your piano but you get confused with sheet music, the best thing you can do is write out the notes above the sheet. This will allow you to start reading a sheet as it was intended and learn a piece from start to finish without spending half of your time deciphering the notes you need to play. As you get used to playing the piano this way, you might notice a difference in your skills and eventually, you might be able to read the sheet music as it is. Think positive It is always important to look on the bright side as a musician because as a creator in this industry there will always be people who love what you do and people who dont. It is important to not let other people pull you down if you believe in your own vision. Be positive even at the critics and use what they say to fuel you to become better than ever before. Beat the odds The hardest thing for a musician to go through during their lives is rejection. There will be a lot of times where your song is rejected, your performance doesnt win awards, or you arent chosen for events. But it is important to remember that patience is a virtue and if you are patient enough, one day things will happen for you and your music. Giving up is the worst thing you can possibly do so please dont let this happen to you. It might shock you to learn that a high percentage of people get their dream jobs simply by asking former work colleagues if they know of any relevant jobs they can apply for at their new companies! The Secrets Of Self-Motivation For Jobseekers Motivate yourself Motivation is a battle of willpower and it is hard sometimes to have motivation when things arent going the way you want them to. However, it is incredibly important for you as an individual to take the time to motivate yourself to write another melody or lyric and play another song. If you lose momentum this can be a pitfall you struggle to pull yourself out from at all. Have patience Remember that success doesnt happen overnight. Although you might see up and coming artists suddenly pop out from nowhere, it is important to realise that there is a lot of work that goes on behind the scenes and backtracking in time to get them to this point. It is important to look at the stories of other musicians and see what they had to overcome to make it. You are not alone in working hard for your dream and it is important to be patient so that one day you will make it. Prioritize As a musician. you will likely have a creative mindset and this kind of mind struggles to deal with the every day business aspects of being a figure. This is why it is important for you to have someone there who is good at the business stuff to help guide you so that you can instead focus on what you need to do. It is imperative that you do this because it will change the whole scope of your working life. Always have a pen As an artist, you will know that inspiration can come in the most random of places and this can be anything from in the shower to on the bus and even out and about shopping. Always make sure you have a pen at the ready to jot down your thoughts and feelings and be sure to be ready to share some insight and inspiration. It could be a lyric, a tune, a song title or even a word. Whatever the idea is, write it down now and you can always work it out properly later. Image by Sasin Tipchai from Pixabay Get back in the fight You would only be like every other human on the planet if you wanted to run away and hide under a rock when you face rejection. The truth is, none of us ever want to face rejection but it is something which always seems to be on the cards. The key thing you need to do is pick yourself back up and use the emotion you feel to bring some fighting spirit to your life and get back in there ready to win. You can do it as long as you believe in your own ability. What's next? Ready to take action? Choose the right tools to help you build your career. Looking for related topics?
