The best thing to do if youre in doubt is to ask a colleague or two how much theyre spending. Giving Cash or Gift Cards Generally, you should not give cash as a gift in the workplace. Giving cash is not considered acceptable unless it is given by the company as a bonus to employees. However, gift cards and gift certificates work just like cash and are acceptable. Its a good idea to do some research beforehand. You dont want to purchase a gift card to Starbucks if the person doesnt drink caffeine.
